BARDON POND ATTRACTIONS

BARDON POND:
Known as "The Ducking Pool" in the 16th Century where suspected Villagers and outsiders were tested if they were Witches or Warlock. The rule was, if they sank they were guilty if they floated then they were still guilty, I guess British Justice has'nt changed much over the years.
Legend has it that the Pond holds many macabre secrets especially Carlos The Skull Splitters body as he tried to escape the King's men in 1799 and was lured to the depths by "Old Nick" himself and promised to return him in another body in another time.

HERMAN LUTZ:
Renowned Actor, Critic, Explorer and Writer Mr Lutz is affectionately nicknamed "The Monumental Guru" as being a caravan resident on Monumental Hill.
Mr Lutz is famous for his role in the 70's sci fi series Galactic Federation as the illustruous Captain Cosmos, saviour of the Universe. Mr Lutz has only just recently settled into "Pond life" with a view to retiring here permanently. Well done Mr Lutz.

MOFFAT FARM:
Built in the Anglo Saxon times this is the oldest farmstead in Yorkshire. Owned by the Moffat family some 400 years and is still going strong.
Inhabited by the lovely Ilana Moffat who is a spearhead of the Bardon Pond community, if she's not organising Yoga classes she's rallying the Villagers with her infectious enthusiasm she's the head honcho, Sim watch out your job is in danger.. Ha! only kidding. Moffat Farm also boasts a warren of tunnels, built in the times of Oliver Cromwell in which the occupants hid from the Kings men. Apparantly William Wallace slept here, his name is carved on the old oak door of the large barn.

SMUGGLERS CAVE:
Rumours abound as this was a popular smugglers cave and home to Carlos' Blood Cult where occult rituals were performed and many a mysterious acts were played out in it's darkly cavernous womb of this popular spot. Legend has it that one of it's many inner caves leads into the walls of the Pond like a uterus.
Many people think Carlos' bounty is hidden in here a lot of people have tried to find it but alas to no avail. As a macabre footnote the not so famous Sebastian Quail, a mediocre Musical Hall entertainer commited suicide here, which makes it a popular moot for spook hunters.

ROSE COTTAGE:
Built in 1799 by Carlos, inside, the beams were taken from the deck of his ship The Halycon, said to be haunted by his ghost and there still remains to this day an eerie atmosphere.
It's large labyrinthine rooms betray it's outward exterior of a humble sized cottage. In the cellar are walled up rooms which people say used to be tunnels that go far out into the sea where the Black Dog of Bardon is said to lay in wait. The Black Dog of Bardon is one of those "old wives'" tales it is said to be a bloodthirsty demon which was once conjured up by Carlos as he was messing about with a black magick book he picked up in Haiti.

THE PIRATES CORPSE:
Established in 1900 what used to be the Judicial Courts of execution this quaint public house/hotel is now in the hands of more amiable people, the only criminals to be seen are the ones not enjoying themselves. Ha! Ha! Ha!
Cymbeline Miller (usually known as Sim) is the pub landlord and doubles as the Village spokesperson.
Nice one Sim, don't give up the day job.

PIRATE MUSEUM:
Originally a Methodist Chapel founded in 1880 Cecil Hawkins bought the Chapel in 1965 and transfomed a run down neglected architectural gem into a Pirate Museum. Although he was penniless when he entered the village his poetry book 'Insomniac Blues' launched the Illusionist School of free association prose. It sold amazingly well in Sri Lanka and the Middle East and with the proceeds he refurbished the old chapel in homage to the infamous scallion Carlos aka Charles Speckthorpe. "Piracy is in our blood" he was once reportedly have said in a rare radio interview on Yorkshire Literature, "Carlos is my muse... a dark one of that".

BARDON POND GALLERY:
This is Yorkshires East Coast St. Ives, a lot of Artists have gravitated to the slumberous landscape of Bardon Pond have been inspired to Paint! Paint! Paint! and then some. Some of them haven't been seen since but others remain under the spell of the sea air and the glorious rising sun.
This months exhibition is Jonathan Delacroix's work, a collection of screenprints, paintings and etchings which span his 45 year old career. Unfortunately he is recovering from a mental breakdown somewhere near Yarm, but our hearts go out to him... Get well soon Jonty!

CECIL HAWKINS:
Probably the most enigmatic of all the celebrities that have graced this quaint little village. Cecil was a genius before his time, he started off doing poetry-by-numbers, but when he wandered into the village by accident he stayed for 15 years and wrote his best work, albeit under the influence of certain substances... (well it was the 60's) his poetry became laced with esoteric knowledge, kabbalistic writings and vivid hallucinary prose.
Bardon Pond still celebrate his birthday with a knees up in the Pirates Corpse, November 1st which coincidentally is the Mexican Day Of The Dead... nice one Amigo!!
